Michelin Bib Gourmand- warranted Cliff notes -Solid food, service, and ambience -I'll be back when in NYC. Detailed We usually have a list of restaurants we plan to check out wherever we go and I make sure to get reservations in advance. Tolo was one of them. This place is well worth a visit and deserves the Michelin bib gourmand award/being in the list. New York is expensive but the value and quality is Food I'll preface by saying that I like beef and seafood mainly, but our favorite dish was the duck breast, endive, and black garlic. The duck skin/fat cap was crisp and the duck breast perfectly cooked. There was a black garlic sauce which was savory and also a white sauce/perhaps egg based sauce on the side (aioli like) which added further richness. The endive was bitter which balanced all the flavor components of the dish. I like the plating as well- contrast of the black garlic sauce versus the white. Service Attentive waiter and hostess. They made sure we were comfortable and answered any questions we had about the menu along with dietary requests. They honored my very specific requests (usually I am not this picky). Ambiance Lighting is dark and each table has candles so it makes it intimate but also there is plenty of conversation going on at the same time. It gets quieter later on through the night. But we came during prime dinner time and we felt like we were in our own little bubble in a good way..

I really loved this restaurant- the food was really well-seasoned, creative, and light (really appreciated all of the veggie side dishes). The vibe was really trendy yet humble, and we loved how helpful and fast the service was. Our favorites were the rice cakes (slightly charred rice rolls), green beans (perfectly stir-fried with a nice, natural sweetness), and morning glory (great sauce and texture).

Highly recommend... the fried chicken w chili crisp on Elbow scallion bun - brined chicken is tender on the inside and symphonically crispy on the outside. The scallion bun is a really fun take on a burger bun. Make sure you appreciate the pickle and dill sauce. Really wonderful. String beans with minced pork - a little sweet, salty and savory - well balanced app! Thank you, Chef Ron!

The raw tuna, crab fried rice, and salt & pepper tuna CANNOT be missed. The wine program is phenomenal (try the Suertes del Marques) and both the food and staff service are so consistent. They have a super cute new outdoor area that I’m looking forward to this summer. The inside is darker and sexy but perfect for friends or a date. So happy I found this spot!!

Everything was absolutely delicious! A few favorites were the rice noodles, fries, and the salt and pepper tofu — but tbh, everything we tried was incredible. Special shoutout to Flannery, the sommelier, who was so helpful and made the experience even better.

We had the salt and pepper tofu, the sweet and sour fish, the cucumber and wood ear, and the little rice noodle. I LOVE the salt and pepper tofu, executed to perfection. The sweet and sour fish was also delicious. I’ve never had the cucumber woodear before but they made it really well and appetizing. The rice noodle was good and we ended the night with the dessert (something w black tea and ice cream)

Thought Tolo was pretty good. Small dishes that are served family style. They were all very well seasoned and tasted very homey. Menu has a lot of options despite the place being pretty small. Lots of vegetarian options and decent wine menu too! I think for the quantity, it’s a bit expensive but the ambiance is great, area is buzzing, and food is delicious.

As I stepped into Tolo, the first aspect that enchanted me was its intimate ambiance. Dim lighting and candlelit tables create a cozy cocoon, perfect for a romantic dinner or a lively gathering with friends. While the sound of chatter fills the air, the spatial design allows you to feel like you're in your own little bubble. The gentle hum of conversations is delightful, gradually fading to a quieter tone as the evening deepens.

Now, let’s delve into the menu, where creativity meets classic techniques. The dishes are well-seasoned and inventive, showcasing a blend of flavors that truly celebrate the ingredients. One standout dish is the duck breast, which a patron described as having a crisp skin that leads to perfectly tender meat, complemented by a savory black garlic sauce. The balance created by the roasted endive adds a delightful bitterness, enhancing the overall taste profile. The thoughtful plating—from the contrast of sauces to the garnishes—invites an aesthetic appreciation that matches the culinary experience.
